A 2006 opening is expected for the $120-million convention center project.

"There hasn't been a four star quality hotel built in the I-88 corridor since 1988," says Lombard village president William Mueller in a statement. "This project will bring more meeting room space under one roof than is presently available."

The DuPage Theatre Foundation has raised about half the money, including commitments from state and village officials, for a project aimed at restoring the 14,000-sf building at Main and Parkside streets to a theater for film festivals and live productions.

The building, which includes seven first-floor storefronts and second-floor multifamily rental units, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
