Henry Skornik, project manager based in the Thousand Oaks office of Whittier-based Oltmans, says the new manufacturing facility is being erected on an 8.5-acre site leased from the city by Robinson Helicopter at 2931 Airport Drive at the Torrance Airport. Completion of the building, which is being constructed at a cost of $9 million, is scheduled for the end of the first quarter of 2004.

Robinson was founded in 1973 by Frank Robinson and is a privately-held company best known for its R22 and R44 model helicopters, which it sells through a worldwide network of more than 100 dealers and more than 250 service centers in 50 countries, including China and Russia. The company posts annual sales exceeding $100 million and employs approximately 800 workers.Designed by Carlile Coatsworth Architects Inc. of Irvine, the new manufacturing facility for Robinson Helicopter is a concrete tilt-upstructure that will feature 8,100 sf of offices and classrooms, motorized hangar doors that are 25-feet high, designed to open up to the airport and more than 30 feet of minimum interior clearance.
