Contractors will begin digging a 26-foot deep hole for the foundation of the 63,000-seat stadium at 91st Avenue and Loop 101, just south of the site of the new 17,000-seat Coyotes hockey arena, now nearing completion. The arena is set to open in December followed by the completion of the football stadium in August 2006.

A key feature of the new football venue is a natural turf field that can be rolled out of the stadium so the floor can be converted for use by conventions, concerts and other events. The stadium roof features two retractable panels that can be opened during game play and closed for air conditioned activities.

The dual destination sports complex, which will be paid for by tax dollars, will serve as the anchor for three million sf of entertainment, retail, office, residential and other commercial uses.
