David A. Clowers, formerly with Faulkner Construction Inc., is Walton's senior vice president. Clowers tells GlobeSt.com that the six-employee divisional office is starting out in 2,000 sf in Knox Park Village at 3001 Knox St., but has built in options to its three-year lease for another 5,000 sf. The temporary office opened in March.
Clowers says Walton was looking to expand its footprint and Dallas was the logical choice as the main port of call for the Southwest team, which has contracts going in Louisiana as well as Texas. The Walton crew has notched its start with the $30-million expansion to Harrah's Casino in Shreveport, LA, a $10-million, 228,000-sf Wal-Mart distribution and return center in Waco, TX, and the 35,000-sf Knox Promenade, another Shafer Properties' retail project in the Knox-Henderson section of Dallas.
Walton's office, in fact, is situated in one of Shafer's developments in the upscale area that's been revitalized with an eclectic mix of shops and dining establishments. The second leg to Shafer's development activities gets underway Friday. The Knox Promenade will deliver Feb. 1, 2004. And another project announcement is pending, but Clowers isn't ready to talk about it yet.
Clowers has spent 28 years as a construction executive in North Texas, with his latest most notable project being the Women's Museum at Fair Park. Prior to Faulkner, he worked for CF Jordan and before that he was one of the last three to turn out the lights at the SuperCollider project near Waxahachie in Ellis County.
Clowers is supervising all division activities, including work in place, profits, cost control, budgets, marketing and human resources. In addition to Kansas City and Dallas, Walton has offices in St. Louis and Springfield, MO, Phoenix and Shreveport. Founded in 1985, its specialty construction areas are retail, gaming, health care, religious facilities and office projects.
