The new development will mark an expansion for the chapter, as it already shares space with the Blood Service Region Center in a 111,000-sf building just down the street from the new development at 4700 Mount Hope Dr. "When the Red Cross moved into the 4700 Mount Hope Dr. facility in April of 1989, the building provided much needed space for Chesapeake & Potomac Blood Services and the Central Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross," Chapter executive director Frank Miller says. "The facility was built to headquarter all the services that the Red Cross offers our community; however, 14 years later our space constraints have increased dramatically. Since that time, community needs have necessitated our growth." The new building is expected to reach completion in May of next year.
