Lonnie Riddle of the local office of Grubb & Ellis says the new building is scheduled for completion in August 2004. Riddle, who teamed with Chad Carlberg also of the local office of Grubb & Ellis to represent the Orange County-based developer and property owner, says Westwood College will be relocating from approximately 25,000 sf of leased space in the city. The college was represented by John Harty and Greg Holm of Trammell Crow Co.
Denver-based Westwood College tailors its programs for recent high school graduates, young adults and working adults who want to acquire new skills or find new careers. The college operates 11 campuses in California, Colorado, Illinois and Texas. It offers degree and diploma programs to prepare students for careers in business, design, computer and information technology, industrial services and health care.
The Westwood College lease is one of a number of transactions in Orange County recently in which colleges and universities have signed leases for campuses or office space or both. Among those who have signed deals in recent months are the University of Phoenix, which signed for 75,000 sf of office space in two class A buildings at 3100 and 3150 Bristol St. in Costa Mesa in a relocation and expansion from a 55,000-sf campus in Fountain Valley; and Summit Career College, which became the first tenant at the Anaheim Campus of Higher Education when the Colton-based institution took 14,157 sf for seven years for its first satellite campus.
