It marks only the second time this year that a month has bested the performance of a like month in 2002. The last time was in March, and that was only a fractional improvement, as the average occupancy rate was 56.6% compared with 56.4% in March 2002.
While the occupancy rate improved in July, the average room rate fell to $85.12, compared with $86.52 in July 2002.
Year-to-date the average room rate is 60.2%, compared with 60.6% in the first seven months of 2002. And the average room rate through July is $84.29, compared with $84.62 in the first seven months of 2002.
