Belmar, on the site of the former Italia Villa shopping center, will serve as a downtown for Lakewood, a city west of Denver.

"Belmar is modeled after traditional urban-style communities that will give the community a true sense of place," says Bob Hayner, director of construction for Continuum.

"We're excited that construction is underway and know that the J.E. Dunn Construction team has the experience needed to bring this first phase of Lakewood's new mixed-use development to completion."

The first phase consists of three, three-story tall building. The ground floor in each building will have 1,500 to 2,000 sf of retail space.

The upper two floors in each building will have 700 to 1,500-sf lot-style apartments.

In addition, J.E. Dunn will construct a 300,000-sf, four-story parking garage.

Construction for the $23 million facility is scheduled to be completed in early 2004.

"Phase one of Belmar is on a very aggressive schedule, but these types of projects are not new to J.E. Dunn," says Steve Hamline, the company's Rocky Mountain region president.
