Kosmont Cos. publishes the annual Kosmont Cost of Doing Business Survey that charts and tabulates specific taxes, fees, and incentives that impact business in over 250 communities and cities nationwide. The firm produces the survey with the Rose Institute of Claremont Colleges.

The new state economic commissioner is also the founder of Kosmont Partners, a real estate development and consulting firm. Kosmont Cos. also specializes in forming joint public/private developments and providing consulting, financial, brokerage, planning and entitlement services to clients.

The 17-member economic commission is chaired by the states Lieutenant Governor, with commissioners appointed for four-year terms that are not subject to legislative approval.

Before his entry into the private sector, Kosmont served in planning and economic development posts at several California cities between 1975 and 1986. He has served on the board of Metropolitan Water District and as a state commissioner on the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board. He is a board member of the California Local Economic Development Association (CALED) and an ex-officio Board Member of the California Redevelopment Association (CRA), an executive board member of the Greater Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and a board member of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.
