LMDC representatives and master plan architect Daniel Liebeskind detailed new plans for the site saying that development plans to construct a bus garage below the surface have been scrapped. The PATH station will still run through the footprint of the south tower, but that was in place before the attack.
Changes include slimming four office towers, moving 1.6 million sf of office space off of the site, and increasing the amount of park space on the sit. Plans for the 1,176-ft Freedom Tower, which will be the world's tallest building, are still in place.
Last week, in response to the families' concerns about the site development, LMDC Kevin M. Rampe said, "We will never, ever build commercial or retail space where those towers once soared to the heavens. We will build a memorial that will make our entire nation proud."
A final version of this updated master plan is expected to be ready by the spring.
