09/17/03: Labor Day marked not only the official end of summer but also the beginning of the next presidential election campaign. Labor Day also had significance for those who actually have jobs; the gainfully employed enjoyed a long weekend. But those who are not employed, the nine million "officially" unemployed, may not have had as much fun. The nine democrats who have announced their candidacies (We're still waiting for General Clark's decision to join the fray) have decided to take a chance at unseating President Bush. The next 15 months could prove to be an exciting and creative time during which we'll witness a true exchange of ideas for getting this economic engine running. Let's hope that representatives of both parties keep in mind that they're truly working for two key constituencies--those who need employment and those who need to keep their jobs.
