09/24/03: How is your diversity program going? Have you given it much thought lately? If not, you may want to start. And I know what you're thinking: Diversity? We've got deals to think about, products and services to launch, companies to run. Well, the "D" word was brought forth during one of the keynote speeches at the E&Y 2003 Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction Industries Conference this week. The point of this particular speech was that there are not enough women with seats in the corporate boardroom. As a matter of fact, there aren't enough invitations being sent out either. While you're actively pursuing mainlines business, it would be a terrific idea to get proactive in seeking out new members for the boardroom. Are you a leader or a follower?

(BIRMINGHAM, AL) Carlton Watts has advanced to vice president. He will be one of the organization's three deputy chief underwriters, working with the managing director to oversee the underwriting team in Atlanta. Watts has been one of the key players responsible for underwriting the most agency-related transactions in terms of dollar; volume and number of deals.

Trulson

STAUBACH
(NEW YORK, NY) Derek Trulson has been promoted to senior managing director. In his new position, Trulson will play a major role in developing national, local and regional account business. He co-founded and built the firm's office in Seattle, representing such clients as Corinthian Colleges, ProBusiness, Nextel Communications, Openwave, Global Crossing and T-Mobile. Trulson began his real estate career as project manager and estimator for a general contractor, where he coordinated with building owners, tenants, subcontractors and other real estate professionals during space planning, permit/design review and construction of tenant renovations and improvements.

NAI INVESTMENT COUNCIL
(CINCINNATI) Chuck Ciolino was recently inducted into the NAI Investment Council. In this capacity, he will take part in transactions; educational events; idea exchanges and conferences with other members who specialize in the marketing of investment real estate.

(BIRMINGHAM, AL) Claude B. Hoopes has joined the firm as principal and director of the Downtown-Back Bay market group. A 30-year professional in commercial real estate, Hoopes has held positions as senior vice president for Boston Properties Inc; corporate vice president at Beacon Properties Corp.; and vice president of development and director of marketing at Gilbane Properties Inc.

D'Orazio

JONES LANG LASALLE
(CHICAGO) The firm recently appointed Jim D'Orazio director and senior vice president of the engineering and operations group. He will oversee technical support provided to the property management teams as well as quality assurance initiatives. A 29-year engineering and operations veteran, D'Orazio served as senior vice president for Grubb & Ellis and regional group manager for Law Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc.
