The largest franchisor, of course, is McDonald's Corp with $41.5 billion in 2002 sales and 30,000 locations. Also in the top 10 are 7-Eleven, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, Wendy's, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, Marriott and Subway.
While food franchises dominate the list, other industries also show up, including beauty salons with $1.9 billion in sales and automotive aftermarket franchises with $5.8 billion in sales, according to Franchise Times.
There are many other significant franchises below the top 200 largest, and franchises overall account for about $1 trillion in sales, says Franchise Times.
The list was sponsored by Global Franchise Network, which networks prospective franchisees and franchisors in the U.S., Canada and other countries.
