Goodyear Planning Commission officials this week rejected Wal-Mart's proposal to place a super center near Interstate 10 and the Estrella Parkway, saying the plan didn't capture what the city wants for its "gateway" along Estrella Parkway. Planning officials also said the store would be too close to future homes that are planned to the west.
Zoning for the store was approved by Goodyear City Council last year. The council, which must still approve the site plan, will take up the proposal at a hearing tentatively scheduled for Nov. 24.
In September, the retail giant lost a round with Chandler City Council, which denied developer Continental Properties' request to rezone the retailer's Arizona Avenue and Willis Road site.
