These agencies will temporarily move into offices at 1400 Dallas St.-- the site of the Aurora Police Department's former District 1 sub-station and current home of the APD Foot Patrol. City staff will share space with the Foot Patrol on Dallas Street until construction is complete on the new Martin Luther King Jr. Library/Municipal Services Center, located at 9898 E. Colfax. HOAP staff will rejoin the other city divisions when the new facility opens in March 2004.
Upon completion, the new 30,000 sf MLK, Jr. Library/Municipal Services Center will house the city's Community Development division, OAR, the Community Outreach Attorney and the APD's Foot Patrol. It will also boast a new library that will be several times the size of the current MLK, Jr. Library and offer a variety of expanded services.
Library patrons will see an expanded children's area, many new bilingual resources and materials and a computer center with several workstations. The new facility also will have several meeting rooms available for community use.
Just outside of the new MLK, Jr. Library/Municipal Services Center will feature an enhanced Fletcher Plaza, a sunken garden and a tree-lined area. City officials are currently making plans to put the new outdoor "venues" to full use. An outdoor film series and an arts gala are also in the works.
