Gander Mountain to Open 120,000-SF Orange County Store

No terms of the sublease deal were available at deadline.The Wallkill location will be the largest of the 65 current Gander Mountain locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Illinois and New York. The largest store at the moment is the company's Geneva, IL, store, which totals approximately 104,000 sf, according to Todd Rymer, director of real estate for Gander Mountain. The Geneva store, located just outside of Chicago, was the first big-box store for the retailer and opened in March 2003. Since then, it has opened eight big-box locations, including two New York stores in Buffalo and Rochester this past June. The Buffalo store totals 70,000 sf, while the Rochester location has approximately 91,000 sf of retail space.

In conjunction with its Wallkill store opening, Rymer says the firm would also be opening an 80,000-sf store in Novi, MI, at 43825 West Oak Dr. "The new stores will help solidify Gander Mountain's position as a dominant outdoor retailer in New York," says Gander Mountain CEO Mark Baker. "I can't wait to provide an even bigger merchandising mix for outdoor enthusiasts in New York. Our goal is to meet the specialized needs of each community we enter."
