As president of CCIM, Behrens will be responsible for increasing participation by members in educational activities, enhancing member services such as the Institute's intranet, and promoting the designation more aggressively.

"Interest in the CCIM and its education courses is very high now throughout the world," says Behrens. "I just helped induct 75 members in Mexico and I will be traveling to China and Korea soon to meet commercial agents there."

Behrens said several US colleges accept the CCIM designation as a prerequisite for classes leading to the MBA. "In some ways, the CCIM is the Ph.D. of real estate," Behrens says. "We're negotiating with colleges to get them to use our curriculum so that when agents graduate with their MBA, they can also be given their CCIM designation."

Two other RE/MAX associates in the US are also part of the CCIM Institute leadership team. Tim Hatlestad, broker/owner of 13 RE/MAX Achievers offices in Phoenix, is chairman of the Institute's Think Tank. Richard Juge, broker/owner of RE/MAX Commercial Brokers in Metairie, LA, is VP of the Institute's Professional Society.

With more than 250 members in its network, including 23 in Colorado, RE/MAX has one of the largest concentrations of CCIMs in the world.

RE/MAX was founded in Denver 30 years ago by Dave Liniger.
