Tyco's plastics business, based out of Bloomington, is part of Tyco Plastics & Adhesives, which is headquartered in Princeton, NJ. That business currently employs about 400 people in the state in facilities in Bloomington, Lakeville and Fairmont. The Fairmont plant is a major employer in the southern Minnesota town of more than 10,000 people.
Tyco Plastics & Adhesives is one of five segments of Bermuda-based Tyco International Ltd. and represents about 5% of total sales.The plant shutdown in Fairmont comes as the $29 billion global manufacturer eliminates 7,200 jobs around the world in an ongoing restructuring. The company is consolidating 219 manufacturing, sales and other facilities. The plant made custom plastic film used for a variety of packaging for food products and other merchandise.
