The first amendment would allow for the creation of mixed-use properties at a 25% higher density than straight commercial properties in service commercial-community districts, or C-2 districts. The second amendment involved would bar solely residential developments in C-2 regions.

"The board believes these changes will preserve small businesses and neighborhood retail," Paul Ferguson, county board chairman, says. "In addition, the new residential development options will make more 'live-work' opportunities possible, where shop owners can live above their businesses.
