Colorado Coalition for the Homeless will receive the money as part of education and outreach initiative. "Colorado Coalition for the Homeless has developed a comprehensive Fair Housing Initiatives Education and outreach program designed to promote compliance with the Fair Housing Act, and equivalent state and local throughout Colorado," says HUD Acting Director John Dibella.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless will emphasize fair housing needs of all of the protected classes under the Fair Housing Act. Education and outreach will be coupled with complaint coordination in partnership with the local FHAP agency, the State of Colorado Civil Rights Division.

The grant was awarded by HUD's Fair Housing Initiatives Program to groups that use the funds to investigate allegations of housing discrimination, educate the public and housing industry about housing discrimination laws, and work to promote fair housing. In 2002, HUD released a study titled, Discrimination in Metropolitan Housing Markets: Phase I, which documented that despite a decline during the last decade, housing discrimination still exists at unacceptable levels.
