The hotel would be built on about 15 acres on the east side, giving it visibility from Interstate 225. Later this year, the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority, will allow four to six of the developers who submitted bids to provide more detailed proposals later this year. The plan is to have a new hotel on the campus in 2006.
The 10 that submitted bids are Corporex Colorado of Denver for Commonwealth Hotels; Phelps Program Management of Greeley in northern Colorado and Mosher Sullivan Development of Denver; Bruce Berger Realty of Denver; Miller Global Properties of Denver; FaulknerUSA of Denver; L.C. Fulenwider of Denver with Dakota Ridge Development, also of Denver; and Interstate Hotels & Resorts of Arlington, VA; Etkin Johnson Group of Denver with White Lodging Services; Stone bridge Cos. Of Englewood, CO; Stormont Noble Development of Atlanta; and Sand Cos. of Waite Park, MN.
The first hotel would need to have at least 6,000 sf of meeting space to host meetings and professional sites. It likely would have between 225 and 350 rooms.
The University of Colorado Health Sciences Centers, the University of Colorado Hospital and Children's Hospital are scheduled to move to Fitzsimons by 2007. Congressional approval is pending to move the Veterans Affairs Medical Center to Fitzsimons.
In addition, Fitzsimons will include a biotech center. Companies in the biotech center already have received for more than $200 million in financing
