"From the very beginning we have said that a prison facility is absolutely inappropriate for Dundalk, an area that we are working hard to revitalize," US Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger says in a statement on the matter, which he and fellow US senators and representatives of the state took an active role in addressing. The area is part of an East Baltimore County renaissance project where the county has planned to invest $8 million dollars in various revitalization efforts.
While BGE officials are considering other plans for the property, it is likely that area residents will not have to worry about any further prison projects. Ruppersberger has introduced congressional legislation that would block any US Department of Justice-proposed maximum security prison facility from rearing its head in Baltimore County, or in the State of Maryland, for that matter.
