Mark O'Briant, who joined the firm in 1990, has been accorded leadership of the newly formed Henry S. Miller Commercial Services Group. "We thought it was a great move for Mark and a great move for the company," Sam Kartalis, Henry S. Miller Commercial's president, tells GlobeSt.com.

O'Briant was president of consulting/appraisal with oversight for IT and research. The idea for the umbrella group, which contains about 50 employees, started to be discussed after Sara S. Baker retired as head of property management. Kartalis says O'Briant's "knowledge of all types of properties" made him "a natural" for the role.

Briant's going-in strategy is to pinpoint areas for "sharing economies" while building in room to add to a portfolio with three million sf of all product type and 1,500 multifamily units. He says this year's plan will focus on a 10% to 20% growth in the portfolio along with an IT change to bring in-house Web sites for managed apartment communities.
