"There have been no decisions made by Dannon," says Anna Moses, a Dannon spokesperson. "We are considering a number of locations, including the one we are in." Brokerage sources say that the company has been in the market looking for approximately 50,000 sf of office space in Westchester County as well as lower Fairfield County, CT.
On Feb. 5, the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency approved an inducement application filed by Dannon that would afford the food products producer $250,000 in sales tax exemptions if it expanded its current space and relocated to 100-150 Hillside Ave., a 137,000-sf building owned by Alfred Weissman Real Estate of Yonkers. The property, which at one time was to be the town hall/library for Greenburgh, is entirely vacant and has been so for many years. The Town of Greenburgh decided to shift its government and library operations to 177 Hillside Ave.
Salvatore Carrera, director of the Westchester County Office of Economic Development, notes that in Dannon's application to the IDA, the firm said it would retain the 208 workers currently employed at its Tarrytown facility and would add another 35 jobs in the next few years. The firm's application said it planned to spend $2.5 million in improvements at the Greenburgh property and another $2 million in furniture and equipment if it moved forward with the deal.
Carrera adds that the county has several other prospects that are interested in leasing space at the Greenburgh property that could fill the building.
