2/11/04: The White House released its latest forecast for job growth , predicting 3.8 million new jobs in 2004, up from the original forecast of 2.6 million. Huh? I'm starting to believe there is a serious disconnect between fact and fiction on Pennsylvania Avenue. T here is no doubt that the economy is on the mend , but job growth is still one of the most pressing needs in this country , and throwing around numbers that have no relation to reality is simply harmful. It ' s one thing to be optimistic and lift people's expectations . It's quite another to throw caution to the wind. A major part of leadership is to manage expectations in a reasonable manner --not play fast and loose with our hopes .
