This is the first new office building to be constructed here in a decade. The architect is internationally known Cesar Pelli, based in New Haven, CT and best recognized for Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Cira Centre will be located adjacent to Amtrak's 30th Street Station, anchoring University City to the west with Center City to the east. It is seen as an important component in University City's ongoing revitalization and a bridge connecting that submarket with the traditional CBD on the eastern side of the Schuylkill River.
Two Center City law firms are its anchor tenants. Dechart has signed a 15-year lease for 245,000 sf and Woodcock Washburn has leased 109,000 sf for 15 years. Cira Centre is a designated Keystone Opportunity Improvement Zone, which gives tenants significant tax breaks through 2018--a matter that has sparked controversy among Center City building owners, particularly since the lead tenants are relocating from within the CBD.
Turner regularly ranks first or second in the major segments of the building and construction industry nationwide. It operates from a network of 45 offices across the country and completed $6.2 billion worth of construction in 2002.
