However, with an overall occupancy rate of 50.8%, the state hotels didn't match the 53.3% occupancy rate for the Denver area. In January 2003, the state occupancy rate was 48.6%, while it was 50% in January 2003 for Denver-area hotels.
But while average room rates dropped slightly in the Denver area, they actually increased for the state to $104.95 from $102.20.
The highest room rates in the state, as usual, were found in the Aspen ski resort, where the average room rate commanded a whopping $340.87. Vail was No. 2 at $298.28.
Aspen and Vail also boasted the highest occupancy rates at 74.4% and 74%, respectively.
All of the resorts combined, which in addition to Aspen and Vail includes Steamboat Springs, Winter Park, Telluride and Crested Butte (although only Steamboat and Winter Park are broken out separately), had an average occupancy rate of 59.4% and an average room rate of $216.18.
The best hotels in Colorado Springs had an average room rate of $73.36 and an average occupancy rate of 48.2%.
