The All-Russian Exhibition Centre is one of the largest, most visited exhibition centers in Russia and is easily accessible by car, bus, metro and tram. Jerde principal Davis Rodgers describes the commission as "a rare opportunity to pay homage to Moscow's rich heritage while complementing and enhancing the city's diverse urban fabric."

A historic "Worker and Farmer" monument designed for the 1937 World's Fair in Paris once sat on site and will be re-incorporated into the project. The long-celebrated monument is thought to have incorporated the first use of the nation's familiar hammer and sickle icon.

Jerde's previous commissions include several projects in Japan, such as RiverWalk Kitakyushu, Roppongi Hills, Dentsu Shiodome, La Cittadella, Namba Parks, and Canal City Hakata; Rotterdam's Beursplein; Las Vegas' Bellagio and Fremont Street Experience; the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles; and The Gateway in Salt Lake City. Currently, the firm has 30 projects underway in China, Hong Kong and Warsaw, Poland, as well as the US.
