The Boothwyn full-scale, discount wine and spirits shop is specifically located along the Pennsylvania-Delaware border to stem the tide of liquor sales lost by Pennsylvania consumers who cross the border to buy liquor in Delaware. It will open in mid- to late-summer.

"It will give customers the convenience of purchasing their groceries and their wine and spirits in the same location," says Jonathan Newman, chairman of the PLCB. The shop "will carry a full selection of the PLCB's new Chairman Selections--great wine and spirits at unbeatable low prices--and a selection of our outlet-priced items," he adds. The shops in supermarkets are staffed by PLCB employees using PLCB cash registers.

Last December PLCB opened a similar shop within the Clemens Family Market in Whitpain Township in Montgomery County. It has also approved a lease for two One Stop Shops in the Pittsburgh area, which are expected to open this summer. As many as four more stores within supermarkets are planned over the next year. Negotiations are currently under way for additional sites at grocery stores in the Central Pennsylvania, Pocono and Greater Philadelphia areas.

In addition, PLCB plans to open outlet stores at Franklin Mills Mall in Northeast Philadelphia and at West Goshen in Chester County. To date, the PLCB initiative, which also includes online sales, resulted in a 7.7% increase in revenue.
