Gates' world-wide headquarters is in the Central Platte Valley in Denver, which is one of the reasons why it chose this site over others it considered in Atlanta and Kansas City. Initially, Gates considered seven different cities throughout the Midwest and Southeast. The metro area also was selected because of the large concentration of existing Gates engineers in the area and the city's favorable recruitment environment. "The move further underscores Gates' long-term commitment to Denver," according to a company statement.

The new center will serve as a technology cornerstone for the Gates Worldwide Hose and Connectors division, housing project research, development and training. Employees will include those being transferred from Rockford, IL and Galesburg, IL as well as new hires. Gates plans to occupy the new building in December.

Architecture and engineering is being coordinated by Oz Architecture of Boulder along with MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) engineering firm and Swanson Rink Inc. of Denver.

Opus Northwest is the developer. Carter of Atlanta handled brokerage and project management for Gates. Gates is owned by Tomkins plc of London.
