Craig Rothmeier, Deep South's chief administrative officer, says the plan's working through the municipal process so there's still plenty of work to do before ground can break, including a final signoff on the abatement package. But, he tells GlobeSt.com, that the six-acre development at the junction of Texas 114 and Dove Road has reached final design stage with a plan to lease out the bulk of a 30,000-sf building with a community training room and exercise center, attached to the 60,000-sf headquarters structure. Blake Architects of Southlake designed the two-building complex joined by an atrium. The projected cost has yet to be tabulated, Rothmeier says, adding it will be mid to late in the third quarter before RFPs go out for general contracting bids.

Despite the decision to build, Rothmeier says the Shreveport, LA office, where the firm got its start in 1967, is not in jeopardy nor are its seven branch offices in 21 states. Deep South, a commercial vehicle insurance company, moved the headquarters to Texas in 1995. He says the company acquired the land last year, opting to stay in Southlake due to its proximity to the Dallas/Fort Worth and Alliance airports.

The 80-employee office expects to add 40 more in three years. "It is important to note that an existing local business can grow into such a nice facility," Greg Last, Southlake economic development director, said in a press release. "It reinforces the importance of involving local businesses in the community." Just last month, the firm was accorded "Corporate Business of the Year" from the Southlake Chamber of Commerce.
