DU's Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate & Construction Management and Daniels School of Business is named after her late husband, Franklin.
Ritchie says the award was given to her for her achievements in the real estate industry, outstanding leadership in the community, the advancement of women's issues and her philanthropic activities.
Burns sits on the Metropolitan Football Stadium District's board, the board of the Metro Denver Convention and Visitor's Bureau, was a founder and now is director of Colorado Business Bank (formerly the Women's Bank), and is president and director of Sportswoman Colorado Inc. She is chair of the DU's board of trustee.
"I have been in over my head my entire life," Burns says. "I may not have known that I was getting into, but I have never walked away from anything either. Walking away was never an option."
