Apartment Complex Goes Down for the Count in Blight Fight

The tearing down of the apartment complex marked the first action taken under county executive Jack Johnson's emergency "demolition bill," or CB-40, that was passed by the County Council last summer. The law paves the way for the expeditious destruction of abandoned and dilapidated buildings. The legislation was proposed under Johnson's Livable Communities Initiative, a plan that the county describes as a means to facilitate a" healthy, safe, litter free environment and promote more livable communities in Prince George's County, one community at a time." Today's press conference, held just before the final demolition work, was a platform for introducing changes in the initiative.
