4/21/04: The sudden death of Jim Cantalupo, chairman and CEO of McDonald's Corp. , should be a lesson for any company without a proper succession plan. In a spirited industry where the entrepreneur is idealized as a gunslinger, real estate professionals who don't plan for the possibility of sudden death or illness may find that the companies they've worked so hard to build may not survive. Mortality is not an issue that many want to look at, but it is a reality. That McDonald's board members moved quickly to replace Cantalupo is a lesson for all of us on forward momentum. Now, about those Happy Meals...
