The project has been renamed Twenty Ninth Street.

The new district, located in Boulder between 28th and 30th streets on one side, and between Pearl and Arapahoe on the other, will be transformed into a 1-million-sf urban shopping area similar to Cherry Creek North in Denver. Cherry Creek North is one of Denver's most popular and toniest shopping areas.

Bill Hornaday, now president of the Rocky Mountain business unit of The Weitz Co., was with Weitz's Phoenix-based southwest division for 23 years, leaving for Colorado last year.

During his years in Arizona, Hornaday handled about 60 construction projects for Westcor, including two regional malls and 10 retail power centers.

Weitz's Denver-area projects include renovating the historic Denver Dry Goods Building on the 16th Street Mall and Downtown Denver's Skyline Park.

The contractor also has local retail experience having built the Andrisen Morton men's clothing store in Cherry Creek North, and has handled urban renovation and rejuvenation projects such as the Flour Mill Lofts in Downtown's Ballpark neighborhood and the Belvedere Tower and Prado condominiums in Denver's Golden Triangle.

Founded in 1855, Weitz is a full-service general contractor, design-builder and construction manager with 13 offices nationwide.
