MeriStar is investing $10 million over a two-year period in renovating the guest rooms, lobby, building facade, meeting space, restaurants and retail space, says Paul W. Whetsell, MeriStar's chairman and CEO. The Radisson is one of 10 properties in MeriStar's portfolio earmarked for conversion this year.

"We continue to refine our portfolio through conversions and acquisitions to focus on first-class, urban and resort hotels with significant meeting space," Whetsell says. "This hotel has more than 60,000 sf of meeting space and we believe that the conversion to a Doubletree, with its reservations system and group meeting sales force, better aligns the property with our interest in accommodating large groups."

Whetsell adds, "As a Doubletree hotel, the (Orlando) property now is part of the Hilton family of brands and will benefit from the Hilton reservations system and Hilton Honors guest frequency program."

Interstate Hotels & Resorts, based in Washington, DC, manages the hotel. MeriStar owns 80 full-service hotels and resort locations with 21,995 rooms in 23 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.
