Affordable Housing Will Be Major Issue in Presidential Election

Of those polled--1,000 adults from urban and suburban areas of the top 25 major metropolitan cities--health insurance availability tops the list of concerns to be weighed in the upcoming election, followed by job security and then housing affordability and availability. Eighty-one percent of the respondents would support the government making more affordable rental and single-family housing available in their areas, provided the properties complement the surroundings. And 50% strongly agreed on the matter, while only 10% strongly disagreed.

"Our new survey makes it clear that voters are going to take their concerns about affordable housing into the voting booths with them," NAR president Walt McDonald says. "All of us want to see our communities offer more housing opportunities and this election season we will work hard for those candidates who agree with us."
