The new facility, estimated to be approximately 450,000 sf over the next 10 years, expects to bring $461 million to the state and generate more than $159 million to Weld County alone. "Our new high-productivity facility will provide substantial economic benefits to the area, especially to new and existing businesses that will support the plant's operations," says Steve McCracken, Owens-Illinois's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Gov. Bill Owens, who worked to land Owens-Illinois, says he expects the plant will be the catalyst for many other jobs. Indeed, Owens tells GlobeSt.com he expects at least two spin off jobs for every job created by Owens-Illionois.
Owens-Illinois chose Weld County last fall, after looking at other sites in northern Colorado and southeastern Wyoming. At capacity, the new facility will manufacture one billion bottles annually for the Anheuser-Busch's plant in nearby Fort Collins. Toledo, Ohio-based Owens-Illinois has more than 140 manufacturing plants on five continents and annaul revenues of more than $6 billion.
