WCI Spectrum submitted a bid that calls for the development of 65 luxury condominium units designed to suit empty nesters. The project, called "the Kensington," will feature one Tudor building and another in a Spanish Mission architectural style, which are both characteristic of properties in Bronxville. The buildings will be either three or four stories in height and located near the Bronxville train station.

Sales on the units will begin in about a year and construction is expected to commence in the next 12 to 18 months. The cost to build the project has been estimated at approximately $60 million.

"It was extremely important to the village that the developer we selected be highly recognized with significant experience in the residential market in Westchester County," says Bronxville Mayor Nancy Hand. "WCI Spectrum more than met those qualifications and we selected them based on their vision for the property, their experience, quality and reputation for working with municipalities and community groups in public-private partnerships."

Mitchell Hochberg, president and chief executive officer of WCI Spectrum, adds, "The town planning officials clearly liked what we proposed, especially how the buildings' design is in keeping with the fabric of the surrounding community."

The project also calls for the construction of a 300-space parking garage; the Village of Bronxville will operate 200 spaces with the remaining 100 spaces earmarked for residents of the Kensington. The units at the development will range in size from 1,200 sf to 2,200 sf and will be priced from $600,000 to more than $1 million. Other amenities are to include a full-service concierge reception area, business suite, lounge and fitness center.
