06/16/04 : This Sunday is the 40th anniversary of Philadelphia Phillies' pitcher Jim Bunning's perfect game against my beloved New York Mets. Today, Bunning is a US Senator representing the state of Kentucky and making news as a member of the Senate Committee on Finance.  He has indicated that he is probably the only member of the committee who will vote against the renomination of Alan Greenspan as chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank.  If there is one example of bipartisanship in our nation's Capitol, it's the wide range of Greenspan supporters. He represents the type of cooperation that is sorely needed in a polarized and sometimes paralyzed government, whether you agree with him or not.  Perhaps Senator Bunning is the only one in these proceedings that wants to hold onto his perfect game.
