06/23/04 : Treasury Secretary John Snow has proudly boasted that this rebounding economy has already resulted in one million new jobs this year and that he is also expecting job growth of approximately 200,000 to 300,000 additional new jobs per month. This is exciting news and with this newfound confidence in a growing job market, which markets are the hottest for real estate professionals? According to statistics from the commercial real estate jobs posting site, SelectLeaders (full disclosure—SelectLeaders is a strategic alliance partner with GlobeSt.com), the 10 areas with the highest percentage of postings in the first half of 2004 are: California, 24%; New York, 17%; Illinois, 9.7%; Florida, 5.6%; Virginia, 5.4%; Texas, 5.2%; District of Columbia, 5%; Colorado, 4.5%; Maryland, 3.2%; and Georgia, 1.3%. These ten markets make up more than 80% of all jobs posted on the SelectLeaders site. Though certainly not a scientific study, these results give more of an idea of where the trends in new hiring are rebounding. Hopefully in the coming months this trend will spill over into the rest of the country as well.
