By the numbers, the new store would include a main building of about 141,000 sf, plus a 14,600-sf garden center. The site would include more than 600 parking spaces, and Wal-Mart officials estimate the project will generate upwards of 300 permanent jobs. The proposed site is currently occupied by a car dealership and automotive center.
The store will also be the fourth in suburban Mercer County, surrounding the state capital of Trenton. Existing Wal-Marts in the region include a 147,000-sf store in East Windsor, a 137,000-sf store in West Windsor and a 142,000-sf unit in Hamilton Twp.'s Hamilton Marketplace shopping complex.
Local officials say they expect to approve Wal-Mart's proposal by the end of this year. The timeline would call for the store to be up and running a year after final approvals are received, according to Wal-Mart officials.
