07/14/04: There has been speculation about if President Bush should replace Vice President Dick Cheney before the upcoming election.  This was spurred by talk by former Republican New York Senator Al D’Amato (for the record, he is not a Rockefeller Republican, but a consistent conservative voice). Aside from the political calculus, punditry and prognosticating, what kind of leadership will be displayed by the country’s top CEO concerning this issue?  George W. Bush is the only president to have earned an MBA, from Harvard nevertheless.  What kind of management lessons did he bring away from Cambridge, MA? Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Either choice—for or against Cheney—is a no-win for Bush.  The Vice President of the United States is the second most important person in the chain of command, and how can one simply say, “Its time to go,” without there being far-reaching consequences?  It may be better to abandon the political calculations and leave things as they are for the sake of the Union.
