The sale is part of the redevelopment plan for Woodbury Commons, formerly the Prime Outlet Center, a 38-acre site which Muir plans to convert to a retail center featuring familiar local and national retailers and restaurants. No public money was requested as part of the redevelopment of the outdated and nearly vacant Outlet Center, according to Muir officials.
Demolition of the eastern two buildings in the first phase of Woodbury Commons to make room for Wal-Mart has already taken place. In addition, the project includes remodeling the remaining 125,000-sf multi-tenant retail building, and adding brick and stone finishing touchs, landscaping and new parking lots and sidewalks.
Existing tenants staying in the new center include: Eddie Bauer, a 13,398-sf store; Schuler Shoes, which is expanding to 12,200 sf and adding the Schuler Shoes and New Balance lines to its San Antonio Shoes offering; and Let's Dish, a do-it-yourself take-home meal preparation outlet that occupies 2,000 sf in Woodbury Commons. Robert Muir officials say they are "in active negotiations" for more than 60,000 sf of additional retailers.
