"Our renovation program will allow us to take full advantage of the lodging recovery, which currently is in its beginning stages and which we expect will extend over several more years," says Bruce G. Wiles, president and chief operating officer of the Arlington, VA-based company. "For the first six months of 2004, we invested approximately $50 million in upgrades and improvements across our entire portfolio of properties."
Gary Upton, general manager of the Sheraton Colorado Springs, says that the renovation touched all aspects of the property, located at 2886 Circle Dr. just off Interstate 25. "All 500 guestrooms, including 64 Executive Club rooms, have been upgraded with such first-class amenities as the Sheraton signature Suite Sleeper bed, 27-inch TVs and high-speed Internet access," he explains. "In addition, we renovated all of our meeting and public spaces, including the lobby, two food outlets, and Rickenbacker's nightclub, as well as the hotel elevators and parking lot."
The hotel has more than 43,000 sf of meeting space and the largest ballroom in the city, about 60 miles south of Denver and the second largest city in Colorado. The hotel is on the eastern base of the Rocky Mountains in the shadow of Pikes Peak. It is near the Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods and the US Olympic Training Center.
