08/11/04: The employment figures for July were less than astounding with only 32,000 jobs added. This is less than promising , especially in light of Fed Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan's talk about a "soft landing" from an economic recovery that was never really robust. In the midst of this unwelcome news comes word from the White House that the President will not be "satisfied until every American who is looking for a job finds one." Wow, really glad to hear that. Obviously there is not much President Bush can do before election day to increase job growth. However, he does run the public - relations risk of appearing--much as his Dad did--out of touch with the actual needs of the unemployed. This is not to say that he is disinterested but only that this administration needs to look deeper into its playbook if it hopes for reelection.
