Parking now costs $1 per hour for a maximum of three hours. At first, boutique and restaurant owners and retailers opposed eliminating free parking. However, consumers were increasingly avoiding the district because people would park their cars in the limited spaces on the street all day, making it frustrating for shoppers.
The 72 new kiosks accept credit cards, quarters, dollar coins and tokens. Several retailers in Cherry Creek are providing tokens to customers.
