08/25/04: A few weeks ago, this column discussed where the hottest real estate job markets were located based on survey data from job-postings service SelectLeaders.com -- our strategic alliance partner. The other aspect of this survey is just as important, that being the kind of positions employers are looking to hire. Interestingly, most of the positions were in the financial-services area. Almost one third of all job vacancies fell in asset management, financial analysis, accounting and allied categories. What does this tell us? It's simple: the engine that drives real estate is the financial community; no question about it. Armed with this information, it's clear that the banking community is still bullish on this industry. It's only when the term workout specialist starts rearing its ugly head that we need to worry. By the way, one of the positions scoring at the low end of the curve was workout specialist.
