News of plans for the sprawling development in Prince George's County--which is oft considered to have the largest population of affluent African Americans of any county in the country--were made public during a press conference that also announced the state's plans for a new highway interchange along the MD 4 Corridor to address congestion and safety issues. The two projects are inherently linked as the new infrastructure will, literally, pave the way for fluid access to Rosewood and other future economic development endeavors in the county.
Rosewood will spread its wings across a vast parcel along Pennsylvania Avenue and Suitland Parkway, just 10 miles east of Washington, DC. When all is said and done, the development will be a veritable community in and of itself, featuring live-work-play offerings such as residential buildings, office space, retail options, recreational space, a performing arts center and a medical facility.
"One of the most important lessons I learned from Donald Trump is that real estate can be one of the most successful vehicles for the production of wealth," Jackson says in a statement. "More importantly, this project is about creating a lasting legacy of African-American entrepreneurialism on a grand scale, with a focus on ownership." Construction of Rosewood is on target to begin sometime in 2006.
