Presently, there are 130 "T-shaped" hangars on the site and all of them are full, says Livingston County Airport Manager Mark Johnson. Once the infrastructure is in place, he has found a company that can move the hangars to the new locations one by one in one piece to make way for the new taxiway. Airplane owners pay approximately $225 to $260 per month to park their planes under cover.
At the completion of its five-year renovation, a precision instrument landing system will be added, Johnson explains, stating that he hopes it will be operational by December 2005. In 2006, the south taxiway is expected to be upgraded and rehabilitated, Johnson adds.
Funding for the work comes primarily from the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program, while the state will pitch in about 2.5% of the cost from fuel taxes, with about 2.5% to be paid from local money.
